More than 1 million signed the petitions nationwide
On Feb. 15, Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care volunteers delivered (to offices in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Fort Collins) more than 38,000 Colorado petition signatures asking Sens. Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner to co-sponsor Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All bill. Similar actions were planned in at least 20 states.
Meanwhile, in Washington D.C., Healthcare-NOW delivered more than 1 million petition signatures collected from all 50 states to 10 Democratic Senators who have yet to sign on to S. 1804, including Sen. Bennet.
In Denver, Sen. Bennet’s Colorado Community liaison Lily Griego invited volunteers in and took notes, receiving the petitions and a letter explaining why we want Sen. Bennet to cosponsor Bernie’s bill, and why we oppose Bennet’s Medicare-X plan.
At Sen. Gardner’s office, volunteers waited in line to be ushered in four at a time, where a
receptionist listened to the letter with a fixed smile and took the petitions, but no notes. (Photos weren’t allowed.)
The signature campaign marked a joint effort of Healthcare-NOW, Credo Action, Our Revolution, Justice Democrats, Progressive Change Campaign, Daily Kos, Progressive Democrats of America, Public Citizen, and many other national and state organizations, including the Foundation.
