Talking points: Allow Coloradans to affordably access their medications! Vote for the Import Prescription Drugs from Canada Act, SB19-005. It’s already passed the Senate! Next stop: House Health and Insurance Committee. Write the committee members and urge them to support SB19-005!
Why do you support this bill? Your personal story is your best talking point!
This issue is being embraced across the isle nationally. U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Ia, President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate, is cosponsoring, along with Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., 1a similar bill on the national level. Their bill, like SB19-005 would provide Americans access to prescription drugs approved by pharmacies in Canada. “For decades, safe and affordable prescription drugs have been for sale just across the border, but legally out of reach for American families,” Sen. Grassley said announcing the national bill. “It’s long past time for Congress to help the millions of Americans who struggle to pay exorbitant prices for medication.”
End the price gouging
We have all heard about the poster child of drug price gouging, Martin Shkreli, who bought the license to produce the medicine Daraprim for patients with HIV/AIDS when it was selling for $13.50 per pill and then raised the price to $750 per pill. But that scandal is only half the story. According to the Government Accounting Office, from 2010 to 2015, some 315 off-patent and generic drugs increased in price at least 100% and, in some cases, 1000% or more. Allowing safe Canadian imports will break U.S. Big-Pharma’s monopoly stranglehold on us.
Save Coloradan lives and money now!
Canada has a more rational drug pricing system and this bill would give us access to it.
Other states are doing it
Utah, Vermont, Missouri, Oklahoma and West Virginia are considering similar bills that are potentially slated to save their residents millions of dollars. Let’s do the same for Coloradans by passing this legislation.
